LHI Project The Oral History of the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway
LHI Progress Report September - November 2005
The inside and the outside of the interpretation coach (apart from the roof) has now been painted. The floor has been carpeted. Cupboards have been purchased and construction work is starting. Some of these will house the hardware for the showing of the DVD and the games for youngsters. Others will provide storage for the Association’s collection of memorabilia (to provide a changing display), books etc.
Filming of the railway line and the workers has now finished. All the oral interviews of the available ex-railway workers (or relatives) have been recorded, although it will be continued as more railwaymen are found. Filming of the Town Trail in Wirksworth and the section on quarrying are being planned.
The track where the museum coach will sit has started to sink and will have to be lifted and repacked with ballast. In addition costs are being obtained for the construction of the ramp for disabled access to the coach, as the legislation came into force in October. Both of these costs will be met from EVRA funds as our contribution to the project.
