MIDDLEPEAK (HOPTON WOOD STONE FIRMS) E

This was the last quarry of the group on the left of Cromford Rd.

Although only connected directly by rail to the Cromford and High Peak line (via a level crossing over Middleton Road) stone was transported to the Wirksworth Branch via an overhead conveyer, which finished about half way up the incline near Colehill Quarry. This had a short life from 1905 until about 1920.After this time stone continued to be transported by rail from Wirksworth coming down from the quarry by road.

Hopton Wood Stone Firms ended as part of Derbyshire Stone so all the quarries on Middleton Rd finished as part of the same group.
